Detectives in New Forest appeal for information after allegation of abduction
Detectives in the New Forest are appealing for information following allegations that a member of staff was abducted from a garage in Blashford.

The alleged incident took place at the Windmill Service Station on the A338 in Blashford, near Ringwood, sometime between 11pm and mid-night on Sunday, August 10.

The member of staff, a man in his 20s, has reported to police that three men forced him into a dark coloured car at the garage.  They then drove him to a remote part of the New Forest where they left him before driving off.

The man was later spotted by passing motorists at around 2.30am this morning, Monday, August 11, sat in a lay-by on the A31 near to Rufus Stone.

He was then collected by police and taken to Lyndhurst police station where he has provided an account of what happened.

The garage was subsequently cordoned off to allow the recovery of any forensic evidence while detectives conducted enquiries.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity, or passed the garage at the time of the incident and saw a dark coloured car.  They would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle driving around the New Forest with three occupants between 11.30pm and the early hours of this morning.

Police campaign targeting speeding New Forest motorists continues

A campaign to reduce animal deaths and injuries on New Forest roads continued this week with an operation on Monday, July 14 at Vereley near Burley.

A total of 13 motorists were stopped during the two and a half hour Stay Under 40 operation, involving officers from the Roads Policing and Country Watch teams. All 13 were found to be exceeding the 40mph speed limit. The fastest speed recorded was 56mph.

All drivers exceeding the speed limit received a £60 fixed penalty notice and three penalty points on their licence. This is likely to result in each of them having to pay more for their vehicle insurance.

The 13 motorists were given information about the Stay Under 40 campaign and the dangers of driving at excess speed.

New Forest District Chief Inspector Gary Cooper said: “It is disappointing that we continue to have to stop drivers exceeding the 40mph speed limit on New Forest roads, in the majority of cases those speeding are local motorists. It is clear that the campaign must continue to educate motorists that the speed limit is in place not just to protect the animals, but also them and their passengers.

“The number of deaths and injuries to animals has reduced since the campaign began earlier in the year, however we will continue to conduct these operations targeting areas of concern and ‘hot spots’ identified by members of the public.”

WIGHTLINK PUTS ITS WEIGHT BEHIND CRIMESTOPPERS

Cross-Solent ferry operator Wightlink has joined Crimestoppers, the national organisation dedicated to cutting crime by providing a listening ear to members of the public who want to report crime or anti-social behaviour without contacting the police direct.

As part of the Corporate Membership scheme, Wightlink will promote the benefit of Crimestoppers anonymous call service pro-actively to both customers and employees.  In so doing it hopes to improve its own security as well as spread the Crimestoppers message in the community.

Crimestoppers recently announced that calls to its round-the-clock Integrity Line, manned by trained professionals, rose by 20 per cent in the past 12 months, resulting in a 29 per cent increase in arrests – and the ratio of arrests to calls locally in Hampshire & Isle of Wight is nearly twice the national rate.

Announcing Wightlink’s involvement in the Corporate scheme, Marketing Manager Kerry Jackson said: “Crimestoppers has proved extremely effective in our local area and we are delighted to be taking an active part in the service.  Every day 17 people are arrested in Britain because of calls to Crimestoppers’ free 0800 555 111 number – proof that the information passed on anonymously by members of the public is of real value to the police.”

Sponsorship Opportunity

Police are appealing for help to trace a two-week-old lamb stolen from a field, known as 50 Acres, at Warborne Farm, Warborne Lane in Lymington.

The lamb was taken sometime between 2pm on Monday, April 7 and 7am on Tuesday, April 8.

Three people were seen in the field on Monday afternoon before the lamb was taken.

The Jacob Sheep lamb, worth around £60, has distinctive black, brown and white markings and would be easily recognisable.

Police Constable Ian Hunt of Lymington police station said: "The lamb was too big to be taken by a fox and was still very attached to its mother so would not have wandered off on its own.

"The lamb has distinctive ‘Dalmatian’ markings and a white chest. I would appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us reunite the lamb with its mother to come forward."

Anyone who may have seen three people in the area acting suspiciously, or has any information is asked to contact PC Hunt at Lymington police station on 0845 045 45 45, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
