OK, so you are on holiday in the New Forest with the kids and the heavens open. Somehow the Forest isn't so appealing when the rain drips off the ponies' backs and the sea looks grey because it is so overcast. The kids are tetchy, your partner talks longingly of having a pint in a country pub (on his own) and you dream wistfully of days gone by when you lay on a beach in some foreign clime with a long cool drink in your hand.
So what can you do in half term that will both keep the children happy, won't break the bank and keep the partner from the pub? The answer is - lots!! Adventure Wonderland in Bournemouth has an indoor barn area with a plethora of activities to keep the children amused. Or why not try Ringwood Town and Country Experience, a museum with a difference that offers lots of interaction? There's also the New Forest Museum in Lyndhurst that will keep little heads and hands busy whilst the raindrops fall or for culture vultures, Breamore House near Fordingbridge. Why not try one of three really good indoor New Forest swimming pools and sports centres situated at Lymington, Ringwood and New Milton or the dry ski/snow board slope at Christchurch? If it all sounds a bit too energetic load your troops on the train and visit one of the large cinema complexes in Southampton where you can munch your way through a huge bucket of popcorn?
Before you can say 'Jack Robinson' (hopefully!), it will stop raining, the sun will peep through the clouds and you can head for a New Forest pub, such as The Plough at Tiptoe near Sway. Here he can have his pint, you that long cool drink and the children can exhaust themselves in the purpose built play area.
