Hampshire
Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) is running a recruitment drive to attract
firefighters in the Ringwood area.
The
Service is looking for people local to Ringwood, who want to make a commitment
to working within their own community and save lives by joining the Retained
Firefighters team.
Retained
duty system firefighters work 'part time' in the service which can be ideal for
men or women, working locally, or for parents who have some spare time during
the day.
In
order to recruit staff members, firefighters will be attending Ringwood Carnival
this weekend (Sept 15) along with holding a station Open Day next Saturday (Sept
22) from 12pm until 4pm for interested members of the public.
Ringwood
Fire Station Watch Manager Kevin Morrison, said: "Retained firefighters are an
integral part of their local community. Being a Retained firefighter is not just
about attending incidents whenever you're required, it's about teamwork and
helping the local community.
"Responding
to 999 calls is just part of the job, other aspects include working as part of
the Community Safety Team which involves giving advice and assistance to local
people on community safety matters and therefore helping to prevent fires and
other incidents. This is just one example of how the Fire Service is developing
its services, it also offers many other opportunities."
The
fire station is currently looking for retained firefighters as over the years
crew members may have retired, moved away, or changed employment.
Retained
Firefighters can be male or female but should live or work within 4 minutes
travel time of the fire station and are expected to attend training sessions one
night per week.
They
receive a 'retaining fee' and additional payments are made for any courses or
incidents they attend.
Local
people interested in making Ringwood, and the New Forest, safer and supporting
their community can do one of the following:
|
Attend
a drill night at the station on Wednesday evenings from 1900 to 2200.
Employers
who are interested in finding out more are particularly welcome at this time and
are encouraged to attend to see how they can assist by releasing staff.
