Hundreds light up lives with midnight walk

On Saturday (May 9) more than 850 people donned their walking boots to take part in the Oakhaven Hospice Hurst Castle Midnight Ramble sponsored by Hoburne Holiday Parks, making it the most popular fund-raising event in the hospice’s history.

Raising thousands of pounds, the ramble is the first such event for the charity, which provides complimentary services including an eight bed in-patient unit, a day hospice, Oakhaven@Home, a community nurse team, physiotherapy, bereavement counselling and education in palliative care.

After a brief warm-up session, a band saw the intrepid walkers off from the start line under a full moon lead by head of fundraising & communications for the Oakhaven Hospice Trust, Mike Denny.

Mike said: “It was quite an experience leading the hundreds of walkers off from the start line in front of family and friends gathered at the Keyhaven Sea Scouts hut. We have been truly touched by the generous support the Midnight Ramble has received and the amount of money raised for the hospice, which makes such a difference to people’s lives every day.”

Rosie Burry, Chairman of Hoburne Holiday Parks, added: “It was a delight to see hundreds of people at the start line, preparing for the exhilarating walk ahead. The unique event has captured the imagination of many people, all keen to raise money for such a worthy cause. It has been a pleasure to be involved with the Midnight Ramble and we hope to continue to support the Oakhaven Hospice Trust and the event in the future.”
