One of the biggest moments in a person’s life is when they propose marriage or are proposed to. No matter what they say, most girls have dreamt about this moment and have images of flowers, diamonds and tears. Personally however, I think the best proposals are the ones that tug at your heart strings a bit. They don’t really have to be fancy or involve major plans. They just need to be personal and memorable. Andy and I had only known each other about a month when he suggested taking me to Paris for my birthday. A lovely idea, the only problem being that I could only get the week following my birthday off from work - this just happened to include Valentines Day! Picture this….. 13th February walking through Paris, had coffee by the river, seen the Notre Dame and had a go on the merry-go-round. Wandered around la Louvre and then headed to a café for lunch, perfect. After a bottle or two of beer, Andy suggested we go shopping, which for him (or any man) was quite a surprise. He took me to a jeweller and asked me if there was any ring in particular that took my fancy! Totally unexpected! I pointed out one, not imagining for a second that he would buy it! Before I let him I dragged him outside just to make sure it was what he really wanted. The next day was the 14th so naturally we went to the Eiffel Tower. If you happen to be in Paris on Valentines Day there is only one place to go, (and everyone else had the same idea)! It took us 3 hours to get to the top. Normally we would have been chatting and laughing and it wouldn’t of dragged but today was different, Andy hardly said a word and when asked if he was ok, all I got was “Yeah I’m fine!” At the top, of course, after yesterdays shopping spree, I was thinking, is he or isn’t he going to ask me? I’m busy looking at the view, we chat and I move off to see the view of Paris from the other side. Suddenly Andy grabbed my arm and said, “will you stay still!"… Oops nearly blew it, think I was nervous as well. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him … (with the ring still stuck in his jacket pocket…typically Andy!) Of course I said “yes“, then I told him to do it again with the ring!!!! Well it had to be perfect!!!! Andy later told me that he wanted to wait until we got down because I was (as any girl would be) expecting it at the top, but he was petrified of dropping the ring so thought he would get it over and done with! How romantic!! For me it was the perfect proposal, it matched our relationship; it was simple and heartfelt with a little bit of the unexpected thrown in the mix.
