Shopping for a wedding photographer is not like selecting a gown or a bridal bouquet. At least when you shop for those you can see something before you make your decision. With your photographs though the proof in is in the pudding and you won’t know what the pudding is like until the day is over. Let’s face it, the photos are the one thing that if done right will capture the essence and magic of the day and as ‘professional’ as Uncle John said that he is with a camera I decided it’s probably easier for all parties concerned if I organised an experienced wedding photographer! Luckily I happen to know (and work with) a well respected Wedding photographer locally and so this decision wasn’t too difficult!
This didn’t stop me however looking at other photographers at various wedding fairs and getting an idea of the kind of photos, arrangements and styles I want for my big day. I think one of the most important things that I have found is because I know my photographer I have been very open about what I like and what I don’t like. Ultimately everyone has their own style and it’s crucial to get to know your photographer and fee that his/her style reflects you as a couple.
Of course Wedding photographers are one of the largest costs (you’ll be surprised) in a wedding so if you’re looking to keep to a tight budget you can still get family and friends to take pictures at the reception and just hire the photographer for the ceremony!
