The secret to wonderful reception music is to make sure it matches your wedding theme and style and is right for your guests too. The most important thing at a wedding is that you and the guests enjoy themselves - Spare a thought for Great Aunt Maud - she’d probably enjoy a dance but she’s not all that familiar with The Killers. So, try and pick entertainment that will get the party going and encourage everyone to be involved. This was where I had difficulties – there are so many options to consider .Here are a few helpful hints that I wish someone could have told me: Discos The word ‘disco’ does not need to be synonymous with cheese. There is talent out there in the form of DJs. They can play any type of music, from modern pop, dance and house, even swing. Make sure you have a chat with them and discuss what you think will suit your guests. It is also useful to get them to supply you with a sample song list prior to the night. Expect to pay from £500 to £1200 for a disco and a DJ for the evening. Classical Looking to add a touch of sophistication at your wedding? Get a classical act to bring in a special atmosphere. You will get to choose from harpists, choirs, quartets, pianists, harpists and even opera acts. Depending on the way your evening is scheduled and the style of your celebration, get them to play during your sit-down meal or at the evening reception party. Expect to pay from £380 for a duo and from £600 for a string quartet. Tribute bands and music A great way to have your favourite band or artist play at your wedding. Looking for a 60s lounge ambience, a bit of ‘Blondie’ magic or ‘Rat Pack’ fantasy, then this style of entertainment might be for you. Expect to pay from £1000 for a (good) Buddy Holly or Dean Martin act and from £1900 for a Blondie performance of 1-2 hours. Other Entertainment And don’t forget the other wonderful forms of entertainment you can get, from a casino to a magician, a chocolate fountain to a caricaturist and a crèche for the little ones might be the best idea you’ve ever had!

TOP TIPS
Things to consider when choosing your wedding entertainment: - 1. Start with the budget - a good buffet can be just as good as a 5-course sit down meal. 2. Establish a good relationship with the banqueting manager to insure that you get what you want on the day.
3. Does the venue offer reception only weddings?
4. Can you use your own caterers? (some venues insist on you using theirs).
5. If you wish to supply your own wine ask if there is a corkage fee?
4. Do they offer marquees? (Most venues have to hire them so can be expensive).
5. Is there a dance floor? (Ask as often they are packed away for storage).
6. Is there a noise curfew? Don’t pick a country village hotel if you want to be dancing until 2am!
