What a surprise Paultons Park was.  Beautiful parkland surrounded by a river and a lake, rose gardens, rock gardens and aviaries. The cobra white knuckle ride was sooo scary and it generally had more rides than Legoland and was cheaper too!  The family loved it!

The popularity of New Forest campsites has risen again this year.  The Forestry Commission and the Camping and Caravan Club have some superb camping sites.  The only one open all year round is Setthorns in Sway.  Has anyone tried the new campsite, Long Meadow,  at the New Forest  Show ground?

Hotel Terravina, Woodlands is a boutique style hotel with interesting verandhas and a great wine cellar.  Many of the New Forest  hotels are being modernised and some offer what I call shabby splendour where you can and your dog can flop out in front of a roaring log fire.

Chewton Glen has to be the most luxurious (5 star and a spa), followed by Careys Manor and New Park Manor (both with spas too).  Rhinefield and Balmer Lawn in Brockenhurst and Macdonald Elmers Court in Lymington have indoor swimming pools.  My personal favourite is the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu.  It doesn't have a swimming pool or a spa, but is so delightfully 'English'.  Love it!  Does anyone have any favourites?

Many people who visit the New Forest drive just a few miles up the road to visit beautiful Christchurch, famous for its Priory, ruins, river and coastline.  Christchurch in Dorset also boasts an excellent  range of shops, restaurants and pubs.  There's also a Gary Rhodes restaurant in Christchurch.
