Police in Western Hampshire are warning residents of the dangers of ice skating on frozen ponds and lakes.
Calls have been received from concerned members of the public after people were seen skating on Testwood Lakes in Totton and Hatchet Pond, near Beaulieu, in the New Forest over the weekend.
Although the water is frozen over, a slight increase in temperatures this week will lead to the ice thawing and becoming increasingly unstable.
Western Operational Command Unit Deputy Commander Rob Dexter said: “Although skating on ponds and lakes which have frozen over may seem fun, it could have serious consequences as the ice thaws. By taking this risk you are endangering your own life and that of those attempting to save you should you fall into the freezing water.”
