Appeal for witnesses after pony hit by vehicle in the New Forest

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pony was hit by a vehicle in the New Forest on Boxing Day (Dec 26).

The incident happened between Hanger Corner and Ipley Crossroads on Beaulieu Road at around 5.20pm.

Police are keen to trace the driver of the vehicle, who failed to stop.

Vehicle parts, including a wing mirror, thought to belong to a silver Peugeot were found at the scene.

Police would like to hear from any vehicle repair specialist who may have repaired a vehicle matching this description in the days since the incident occurred.

PC Alison Tilbury said: “As a result of the injuries it sustained in this incident, the pony has now been put down. Failing to report a collision is an offence and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have any information about the vehicle involved so that we might provide suitable advice to the motorist.”

“We would also like to urge people to drive responsibly and to keep their speeds down at all times when driving on the Forest roads, where animals roam freely and can act unpredictably.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Alison Tilbury at Hythe police station on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
