Monday, 20 September 2010
FIFTEEN firefighters were called out to rescue a donkey that got stuck in bog in the New Forest last night.
The dinkey got into trouble in a bog off Furzley Road, Furzley and sank up to its head.
Crews from Eastleigh and Lyndhurst fire stations spent nearly an hour freeing the donkey in the dark.
Watch manager Anton Phillips, an animal rescue specialist, said: "It's really deep bog where animals pass through regularly.
"It's the second animal that's got stuck in their in a month"
"It has probably been in their for a couple of hours. Just its head and the top of its back were showing. Most of the fight had gone out of it."
Firefighters passed straps underneath the donkey and hauled the animal from the bog. It was taken into the care of the Agisters, who are responsible for the Commoners livestock.
