Operation Farandine – teenage driver injured in Brockenhurst Bridge crash

 

Motorists are being advised to avoid the Brockenhurst Bridge area on the A337 Lyndhurst Road following a serious collision involving two cars and a bus.

 

Hampshire Constbulary received a call to the area at 4:43pm today after reports of a 17-year-old boy trapped following a collision between the double decker school bus a red Daewoo Matiz and a black VW Polo.

 

The teenager, who was driving the Polo south towards Brockenhurst when the collision occurred, was cut from the vehicle by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, and taken to Southampton General Hospital with life threatening injuries.

 

The bus driver, a 54-year-old man was also taken to Southampton General Hospital with head and leg injuries, although his condition is not life threatening.

 

Students travelling on board the bus were uninjured. They were taken by a second bus to Brockenhurst College where they were collected by their parents.

 

The driver of the Matiz, a 41-year-old man, was uninjured.

 

The road between Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst Bridge remains closed and all traffic is advised to divert towards Beaulieu.

 

The roads are expected to remain closed for some time while all vehicles are recovered and investigators examine the scene.

 

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact Acting Sgt Dan Golding at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Farandine.
