Investigation into New Forest Dog Deaths - can you help? Print E-mail

Copied from the Animal Health Trust.
A recent spate of dog deaths in the New Forest in Hampshire has prompted our scientists to assist in an on-going investigation into this mystery dog illness.

Dog owners are advised to look out for wounds or lesions on the limbs or face of their dog which will not heal. Affected dogs then go on to develop signs of severe depression, loss of appetite, and vomiting, quickly accompanied by acute injury to the kidneys (AKI), which is understood to have proven fatal in all but one case to date.

If you have walked your dog in the New Forest Fordingbridge area since the beginning of 2013, please complete this questionnaire, even if your dog has not been affected.

Police seek witnesses to A35 road rage incident Print E-mail

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit at Totton are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic incident on the A35 from Ashurst to Totton. At about 4.15pm Sunday, January 6, the drivers of a black Vauxhall Astra and a black Lexus 4x4 were involved in an altercation which started at the A35 junction with Woodlands Road, Ashurst, and continued to the M271, where both vehicles pulled in behind a police car on the hard shoulder. The Astra is a 51 registration, and the Lexus is a personal registration, ending in 90. It is alleged that the vehicles collided at some point. PC Jonathan Crowe said:  “This is not a common occurrence.  It took place on a main road on a Sunday afternoon, and it is believed there are a number of witnesses who may well have important information.  I would urge them to contact us.” Anyone who witnessed the two vehicles being driven is asked to contact PC Crowe at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101.

Police appeal after theft from Lymington car Police at Lymington are appealing for information from anyone who was near All Saints Church, Hordle, Lymington, on Christmas morning. Between 10 and 11am, someone smashed the front passenger window of a silver Vauxhall Zafira, parked in Hordle Lane. The thief took a silver Canon A810 digital camera, worth £80, from a storage space under the front arm rest. PC Arron Wood is appealing for any sightings of suspicious people or vehicles on Christmas morning. He also reminded people not to leave valuable possessions in unattended cars.  “Please take all your property with you.  Don’t leave or hide anything.  Criminals won’t break into vehicles, if it is obvious there is nothing to steal,” he said. Anyone with information about the theft or who has been offered a camera like the one which was stolen is asked to contact PC Wood at Lymington on 101.

Police seek help after Lymington Burglary Print E-mail

Police seek information after Lymington burglary Police at Lymington are seeking information after the home of an 86-year-old widow was burgled while she was in hospital. The victim was being treated for the after-effects of a stroke at the time of the incident, and her home was being checked regularly by a relative. Sometime between just after midnight on Thursday, December 6, and 1.20pm Saturday, December 8, offenders forced entry through a front casement window of the house in Widbury Road, Pennington, Lymington. They searched every room and took jewellery and a 22-inch JVC television.  The jewellery includes a pewter Celtic broach, a string of pearls with an egg-sized Topaz oval stone, and a necklace of Haematite crystals. Police are appealing for information regarding the sighting of any suspicious people in the area.  They are particularly interested in information about a red or blue old-style hatchback car and its occupants, seen in the area on December 7. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Ben Smith at Lymington on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.

Man robbed outside New Forest station Print E-mail

Appeal after man robbed at gunpoint outside railway station in New Forest Police are appealing for witnesses after a man, who had just parked his car outside Brockenhurst Railway Station, was threatened by a man who appeared to be brandishing a handgun at around 6.30am this morning, Wednesday, December 5. He told the victim to get back in his car and drive him to the HSBC bank in Brockenhurst, where he forced him to withdraw some cash from an ATM. He then made the man drive to a car park on Rhinefield Road and told him to get out of the car. It is believed this was sometime between 7 and 7.15am. The robber then drove off and later abandoned the car in Sway Road, Brockenhurst, on a track near to the railway bridge.  Officers are now trying to trace anyone who saw any of the incident, which began on the southern side car park at Brockenhurst Station. The car involved is quite distinctive as it is a grey Porsche 911 Carrera.

There would have been quite a few people using the station at that time and officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened or anyone suspicious in the area around the time of the incident. We are also keen to trace any witnesses who may have seen the car or the people involved, in the forest.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Operation Limestone team at Lyndhurst CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Police are expected to be at the station most of the day investigating the crime and will be speaking to commuters this evening as they return home and will be on hand there tomorrow morning as well to speak to potential witnesses.
