This unique family museum has evocative and atmospheric displays of teddy bears from throughout the last century. The earliest teddy bear on display dates back to 1906. It was one of the very first teddy bears to be made, and is based on the original pattern of the first teddy bear made by the Ideal Toy Co. There are numerous bears of all shapes and sizes from throughout the hundred year history of the teddy bear, right up to artist bears and award winners of today. Famous bears such as Rupert Bear, Winnie the Pooh and Paddington are also present, as are many TV favourites The museum is set in the ‘home’ of Edward Bear â€" a human sized teddy bear â€" who with his extended family have been avid bear collectors! Grandma Bear and Edward Junior are there to greet you in the reception room. In the living room Grandpa Ted is asleep in his favourite armchair whilst uncle Baloo plays music to Bearnice. In his study Edward Bear is reviewing his collection of teddy bears. The whole visit is great nostalgic fun and a chance to enter the enchanting world of the teddy bear in this family museum. The only museum on mainland Britain dedicated to dinosaurs; the award-winning Dinosaur Museum is a treat, especially for children. The museum combines life-sized reconstructions of dinosaurs with fossils and skeletons to create a hands-on experience. Multimedia displays tell the story of the giant prehistoric animals and their enthralling world millions of years ago. The life-size dinosaur reconstructions, which include Tyrannosaurus rex, Corythosaurus, Deinonychus and Triceratops, are among the most popular displays. They beg to be touched by little hands - and that's encouraged. The Dinosaur Museum is situated in the centre of Dorchester, a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast. The museum has most recently been heralded as one of Britain’s Top Ten Family Museums. Previously it has been chosen as one of Britain’s Top Ten Hands On Museums. Such hands on displays as the ‘feely box’ and ‘feel a fossil’ mean discovering about dinosaurs is fun, and the 'Dinosaur Discovery' Gallery upstairs is filled with even more interactive displays. Whatever the weather be sure to visit Dorchester’s monster attraction. An all weather Dorset attraction.
